...run away, tell no one about the wedding, then let the chips fall where they may,” she explains.
Military deployment is a frequent reason for elopements since, Savannah is a military town.  Hunter Army Airfield is, literally, in the heart of the City.  Fort Stewart takes up much of neighboring Bryan and Liberty Counties and Beaufort Naval Air Station and the Marine’s Parris Island are across the river in South Carolina.  Deployments bring many eloping couples into our path.  Sometimes though they are planning a large wedding down the road, they decide to marry before the deployment.  Other times they plan the elopement to take place as soon as the deployment is completed.
In the 21st century, the soldier, sailor or Marine is highly likely to be the bride instead of the groom and a surprising number of couples both wear the uniform.
“Our wedding seems so private and personal,” some couples say.  Agree or disagree, to a number of people their wedding ceremony is an extremely personal event.  They don’t mind the idea of a party to celebrate afterwards back home, but the vows they will repeat to one another are so personal, they want to share it just between the two of them.  This sometimes happens when one or the other is extremely shy and uncomfortable acting out such a personal moment in front of 100 pairs of eyes.
Whatever the reason, Savannah’s wedding professionals are happy to offer elopement services to those who choose to take that route.  “We love doing our part to provide the bride and groom with a beautiful, memorable wedding day,” says Byous, “no matter how small.”

Sonya and Noah decided on an intimate elopement among the dunes of Tybee Island, left.  Similarly, Susan and Keith, below and bottom, chose Tybee Island's North Beach for a quiet "just two" ceremony.
